It is customary to worry about the decline of agricultural land.

Abubakar Siddique: Bangladesh is an agricultural country. The economy of the country is largely dependent on agriculture. Particularly the huge amount of food grains needed to meet the food needs of the country comes from agricultural land. But this land is decreasing day by day. The amount of agricultural land is decreasing so rapidly that it has become a matter of customary concern. If this situation continues, it will be almost impossible to meet the country’s food needs in the near future. Hopefully, the government is going to legislate to regulate land use. The cabinet meeting has already approved the draft law in principle. It also made it mandatory to obtain advance clearance for the construction of houses or buildings. In rural areas, the union council will issue the exemption certificate. If you disobey the law, five years jail and a fine of up to Tk 1 lakh have been kept. The law is very timely in current reality. Proper implementation of this can play a role in protecting agricultural land. Population growth is one of the reasons for the decline of agricultural land. Population is increasing day by day. At the same time, house-to-house is increasing. Most of which is being made in agricultural land. In addition, the effect of increasing the population is in other areas. New roads, infrastructure have to be built. The factory is growing. Agricultural land is being used for these. Apart from this, the agricultural land is also reduced due to river breaks in riverine Bangladesh. For these reasons, there is no alternative to protecting agricultural land to ensure food security in the future. For this, we have to move forward with proper planning.

There is a need for widespread publicity and awareness of the planned use of the land. In order to achieve self sufficiency in food and to preserve the environment, the amount of farmland and forest land reserved in the country needs to be increased. At the same time, urbanization and development should be covered under specific plans. In this case, there is no alternative to the planned use of the land. According to a report from the Cooperative Daily, the agricultural land in the country is decreasing to 12,000 hectares per year, which is 5 percent of the total land. Comparisons between agricultural census 1 and 25 show that the area under cultivation has decreased by 7 lakh 3 thousand acres, that is, 9.5 percent in 20 years. Analysts say the decline in agricultural land is worrying. According to the expert, every year, new faces added to the country’s population need more than 3 million tonnes of rice. On the one hand, it is customary to worry about increasing food demand and on the other hand the decline of agricultural land. In this case there is no alternative to the planned use of the land.

Land is very valuable in a limited area of Bangladesh; Here, every inch of land has to be used to calculate the future. Due to unplanned development and urbanization, large number of cultivable land is decreasing every year in the country. Due to the reduction of cultivated land, the production of 2 million tonnes of food grains is decreasing every year. As the cultivable land is declining, the country will face food security threats in the future. Therefore, the planned use of land should be ensured throughout the country. It is to be hoped that legislation is being enacted for this purpose. Proper implementation of the law is also essential. Besides, there is a need for widespread publicity and awareness of the planned use of the land. In order to achieve self sufficiency in food and to preserve the environment, the amount of farmland and forest land reserved in the country needs to be increased. At the same time, urbanization and development should be covered under specific plans. In this case there is no alternative to the planned use of the land.
