City dwellers are at serious health risk due to pollution and noise pollution.

Abubakar Siddique: City dwellers are at serious health risk due to air pollution and noise pollution. That is, it is seriously harmful to health. On the other hand, serious pollution has also led to fatal health risks. It is important for the authorities to take strong action in this regard.

The report titled ‘Global Air Situation-20’ says that in Bangladesh, 1 lakh 22 thousand 3 people are killed every year due to air pollution. So many deaths are not being sensed! And Bangladesh is right after Pakistan in terms of infant mortality due to air pollution. About one thousand brick kilns around Dhaka were launched from November. They are responsible for 5 percent of the pollution. On the other hand, there is a serious health risk due to noise pollution. The use of hydraulic horn in vehicles has exacerbated the noise. The noise pollution can lead to human hearing fatigue and deafness. Among the diseases that can cause high blood pressure, vascular inflammation, ulcers, brain disorders, loss of ability to function, mood swings, irritation, nervous weakness, vascular contraction and heart problems are among the other.

Sadly, no one is in need of a government ban on the use of hydraulic horn in vehicles across the country. In fact, hydraulic horn is used in most of the vehicles of the country. Generally, people hear sounds from 1 to 5 decibels. Higher levels of noise cause many health problems, including hearing loss. However, 5% of the country is still using hydraulic horn. According to the Motor Vehicle Ordinance, only a fine of Rs 1 has been arranged for the use of banned horn. As a result, the fine is only Tk 5, so the drivers are not taking the matter seriously. Moreover, many drivers do not even know about the prohibition of hydraulic horn in the law. The normal hearing range for humans is 1 decibel. If there is more then noise becomes pollution which causes various problems in human body. Noise pollution can lead to hearing loss and fatigue. Among the diseases that can cause high blood pressure, vascular inflammation, ulcers, brain disorders, loss of ability to function, mood swings, irritation, nervous weakness, vascular contraction and heart problems are among the other. According to the World Health Organization report, the sound of 3 decibels makes people temporarily deaf and those decibel levels make people permanently deaf.

There is no alternative to effective measures to stop the use of hydraulic horn to prevent noise pollution. In particular, administrative measures should be taken to ensure that the order prohibiting the use of hydraulic horn is implemented. Although the use of hydraulic horn is prohibited, income is not prohibited or there is no specific mention of it. So imported is the hydraulic horn. In this regard legal restrictions should be imposed on imports. The driver of the vehicle also needs to be aware. One has to realize that everyone is suffering from noise pollution. Effective steps should also be taken to stop air pollution. There is no alternative to protecting public health.
