Revenue officer Jahangir, who was involved in the question paper leak ring, earned crores of taka by working in various government departments while maintaining a separate office.

AB Siddik Bhuiyan: Revenue officer Jahangir Alam, who was involved in the question paper leak ring, has been working in various government departments and doing business worth crores of taka by taking a separate office. He has also been accused of evading government revenue by understating the assets of various industrial institutions, factories, and wealthy people of the first class of society, and collecting revenue by understating their assets by taking his own prescribed fee. Jahangir Alam, an officer of the Customs, Excise and VAT Commissionerate, Tongi-Zone-2, has been accused of various charges, including collecting revenue by understating his assets. Dhaka Metropolitan Press Club President AB Siddique Bhuiyan has filed a complaint against his activities in various departments. Through all the working officers and employees under the jurisdiction of Customs, Excise and VAT Commissionerate Tongi-Zone-2, he evaded government revenue by understating the assets of various industrial institutions, factories, and wealthy people of the first class of society, and collected his prescribed fee. Here, the moneylenders of small, medium, and large industrial institutions and factories take bribes of 1,23,700 taka in addition to their prescribed fees through the working officials and employees. In some cases, they are also accused of taking bribes directly from the moneylenders of the factories. The fees of all industries and factories are not the same, and there are differences here too. The moneylenders of various institutions survive by reducing government revenue. If they do not give their prescribed freebies, the moneylenders of various industrial institutions have to suffer various harassments. When the Awami League was in power, the moneylenders of BNP and Jamaat-affiliated industrial institutions had to suffer various harassments from this official. However, this official is still alive due to invisible forces. Despite the allegations that he has provided financial support to the Awami League, Chhatra League, Jubo League, Swechchhasebak League, and Shramik League against the agitators to question the student movement! He is still alive. He is one of those who are weaving a web of deep conspiracy by the followers of the Awami League in various government offices. Karon and his wife’s brother’s son is the co-general secretary of the central committee of the banned Chhatra League.

According to the investigation, Jahangir Alam, a Tongi-Zone-2 officer of the Customs, Excise and VAT Commissionerate, is Kashem Ali (Lancher Clerk) of Ward No. 4 of Fultala village, Bibichini Union No. 1, Betagi upazila, Barguna district. Being a child of a very poor family, he dreamed of becoming a millionaire overnight and acquired wealth beyond the known income by conducting various legal activities. The main two sources of this income are giving jobs and the other is not collecting the prescribed revenue of the government.
Taking bribes illegally at work.

According to further investigation, Md. Billal Hossain, father of Jahangir, gave him a job in the Barisal Judge Court. Md. Miraj, father of Habib Sharif, gave him a job in the Bakerganj registry office. The village is located in the Niamati of Bakerganj upazila. (Note: Ali Sharif of Fultala Sharif’s family is his nephew). This Jahangir is a relative of Sharif. Md. Ilias Sheikh, son of Halim Sheikh of Fultala village of Betagi upazila, Salma Begum (husband Pavel Hawlader) gave their siblings jobs in the railway (in Kota, Dhaka). It is worth mentioning that Jahangir’s sister Delwara Begum, husband Yunus Talukder, gave them jobs by mentioning the address of her house, Sepoy Bagh, Dhaka. He gave jobs to Altaf Sikder’s two sons. Anwar Sikder to Mitford Hospital, Dhaka. Alamgir Sikder to Shyamoli Mental Hospital, Dhaka. He gave jobs to Amjad Sikder’s two sons. Son Rubel Sikder to the Board of Revenue. He gave jobs to another son Enamul Sikder to the Labour Commission. He gave a job to Ali Sharif at Shyamoli Hospital, and also gave him a job there, reducing his age. He took lakhs of taka from everyone. In exchange, he got a job. He gave a job to his sister’s daughter Dulia in the Bangladesh Air Force. It doesn’t end here. Jahangir married in Kakchira, Lemua village of Patharghata upazila of Barguna district. After marriage, he also gave a job to his own wife Anu in the audit branch of the Bangladesh Armed Forces. He gave a job to his wife’s elder brother’s son Bakir in the railways. His wife’s younger brother Palash in the bank. He gave jobs to 45 people in his union. He also took money by giving jobs to relatives. He reduced the age in the certificate in various districts, and gave jobs in the freedom fighter quota even though he was not the son of a freedom fighter by making fake certificates. That is why questions have arisen in his own area about those who have taken jobs. They got the question papers of the recruitment exam before the recruitment exam. That is why the locals said that they are involved in the question paper leak ring.Investigation sources also revealed that he had a separate office for illegal transactions on the 2nd floor of Road No. 2, House 1/C, Sector 3, Dhaka Uttara. Jahangir vacated the separate rented office room after the fall of the autocratic Sheikh Hasina. This official has been in important positions throughout the dictatorial Sheikh Hasina’s rule and has taken advantage of it. This official had close relations with former ministers and Awami League leaders. If any complaint was made against this official, no one would take action because he was on the list of Awami League’s favorites. Customs, Excise and VAT Commissionerate Tongi-Zone-2 officer Jahangir is still active in questioning the great purpose of the student community even in the present, as the ghost of the Awami League.

Sources said that until the fall of the autocratic government, this official used to deliver a part of the money earned through irregularities and corruption to the former minister by any means. It is also known that he would sometimes deliver the goods to the market. It is known from sources that this official has constant contact with many friends of the dictatorial government of the former fascist Sheikh Hasina. He formed a syndicate of the Awami League in the factory. He made arrangements to earn money illegally from there. This official also used to get a share from there. He was also accused of embezzling money in various ways. He has a mountain of wealth in his name and anonymity! He was exempted from all crimes. This officer is a follower of the Awami League. Ever since the head of the autocratic Awami government, Sheikh Hasina, fled the country to India in the face of the student movement, he has been trying to change his position and change his mind. A source said that as soon as the new chairman came, Jahangir, an officer of the Customs, Excise and VAT Commissionerate, Tongi-Zone-2, changed his position and changed his mind. This officer is still in service. He did not stop here and demanded illegal money from various factories.

When asked about a family who had taken the job, he said on the condition of anonymity, if he gave him money, he would get a job in any department. He gave jobs to my two sons. He also took money from his relatives. Even if he did not play, there are more sirs who have to be paid.

Dhaka Metropolitan Press Club President AB Siddique Bhuiyan said, “The journalists interviewed those who got jobs to find out information. They all got jobs in exchange for money. Despite his own home being in Barguna district, he gave the job to his sister-in-law’s house address in Kota, Dhaka district. He was not the son of a freedom fighter, but he gave the job to another freedom fighter with the certificate. The matter of his involvement in the question paper leak ring has come to light from his own area. Because he gave jobs to all the departments. Relatives of those who took the exam said that those who took the exam used to get the question papers in advance. This is a cat in a bag if you check the information of those who got the job.

However, a senior ACC official, on condition of anonymity, said, “How did Jahangir, an officer of the Customs, Excise and VAT Commissionerate, Tongi-Zone-2, become the owner of so much wealth, how did he give jobs to so many people in different departments? That should be the goal of our investigation. If anyone complains to us, we will investigate and bring him under the law and take legal action.”

It is alleged that he has amassed a huge wealth in a short period of time. He has used it as the main means of earning money. This officer has purchased property in the name of close relatives. Several officials of the Customs, Excise and VAT Commissionerate, on condition of anonymity, expressed their disappointment and told the media that such a picture of corruption and irregularities is tantamount to tarnishing a glorious institution like the Customs, Excise and VAT Commissionerate. They got away with it because they were a favorite of the Awami League. Customs, Excise and VAT Commissionerate Tongi-Zone-2 officer Jahangir tried to get his statement, but he did not give any statement and threatened to take the journalists to see him.

The coordinators of the student movement against discrimination said that Customs, Excise and VAT Commissionerate Tongi-Zone-2 officer Jahangir is the ghost of the Awami League, taking into account the allegations against him. He should be dismissed and brought under the law and tried. There is a possibility that he is involved in the question paper leak ring of various government departments. Being an Awami League man, he has spent most of his service time in a convenient place.

Several people in his own area said on condition of anonymity that their family is involved in Awami League politics. His wife’s brother’s son is the co-general secretary of the central committee of the banned Chhatra League. He was also involved in the student politics of the Awami League when he was a student. There is a possibility that he is involved in the question paper leak ring of the job recruitment exams of various government departments. The allegations against him are true. These things are known from various people in his own area. The information terrorists of the Awami League are spreading various propaganda from important positions in the government and tarnishing the image of the government. Their main objective is to question the great objective of the student population.

In this regard, TIB Executive Director Dr. Iftekharuzzaman said that the question paper of the job recruitment exams of various government departments has been leaked. There is a possibility that he is involved in it. Illegally withdrawing money is not a small crime. Corruption is never small or big, corruption is corruption no matter what it is. Small corruption gives rise to big corruption. There is no doubt that the ACC is doing a better job than before. More detailed investigation is needed regarding the corruption in the ACC. At the same time, there is a shortage of manpower in the ACC and these need to be resolved. Because the ACC cannot investigate the corruption allegations in comparison to the ones that are received. If the ACC could investigate all the corruption, then corruption would have been reduced to a large extent. However, we are optimistic that it will be possible to uproot the corrupt, which will happen one day.

The Chairman of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) said, we are investigating against many corrupt people. It is not known whether they are involved in the question paper leak ring of the job recruitment exams of various government departments. If we receive more complaints, we will also take legal action through investigation. Whoever commits a crime, if it is proven in our investigation in any way, we will file a case against them and take all necessary measures. No corrupt person will be spared.

National Board of Revenue Chairman Md. Abdur Rahman Khan (FCMA) said, there is no opportunity to work with a separate office. If they have done so, it is a crime. If we have not received the complaint yet, if the complaints are proven through investigation, we will bring them under the law and bring them to justice.
